The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total expenditure of ₦38.69 billion for the execution of strategic projects and policy initiatives aimed at accelerating development, strengthening institutions, and improving the welfare of residents across the state.
The approvals were reached during the 35th Executive Council Meeting, held on Wednesday, 18th December, 2025, at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano, and presided over by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the government said the decisions reflect its determination to deepen inclusive governance, renew critical infrastructure, and enhance service delivery across key sectors.
Major Boost for Education
In the education sector, Council approved the settlement of outstanding liabilities owed to boarding schools’ suppliers for part of the 2025/2026 academic session, amounting to over ₦1.69 billion. It also approved funds for the rehabilitation of Government Secondary School, Mariri, procurement of 50,000 crate bags for students, and the relocation and reconstruction of Maikwatashi and Danwaire Primary Schools in Nassarawa Local Government Area.
Massive Investment in Roads and Public Infrastructure
A significant portion of the approvals was dedicated to works and infrastructure, including the construction, rehabilitation, and re-award of major road projects across several local government areas. These include the Gwarzo–Tsaure–Tsanyawa Road, roads in Albasu, Karaye, and strategic urban routes linking Airport Road, Club Road, Bompai, and Audu Bako Way.
Council also approved funds for the rehabilitation of Gani Earth Dam, the construction of a Conference Centre at the Governor’s Lodge in Kwankwasiyya City, and the building and renovation of Juma’at Mosques in Kura and Rimin Gado Local Government Areas.
Water Supply and Community Access
To address water challenges, Council approved projects covering pipeline construction in Hotoro, settlement of diesel and electricity debts, and the execution of Phase II of the Abba Kabir Yusuf Reach-Out Water Supply Projects, targeting underserved communities across the state.
Strengthening Healthcare and Security
In the health sector, approval was granted for the renovation and equipping of Lamba Primary Healthcare Centre in Bichi Local Government Area, aimed at improving grassroots healthcare delivery.
On security, Council approved the procurement of 300 Boxer motorcycles for the Neighbourhood Watch Corps, reinforcing the state’s community-based security architecture. In addition, the Corps was formally approved for absorption into the state service with permanent and pensionable appointments.
Agriculture, Land Compensation, and Governance
Council also approved funds for the construction of a rural feeder road linking Dangora, Masama, Dansoshiya, and Dansoshiya Dam in Kiru Local Government Area, boosting agricultural access and productivity.
In the land and urban development sector, over ₦6.8 billion was approved for the compensation of 5,015 property owners in Rimin Zakara, clearing a major bottleneck to urban development.
Further approvals included funding for anti-corruption and leadership capacity-building workshops, settlement of outstanding certificates for classroom construction across all 44 local government areas, and the payment of Earned Academic Allowances to staff of Northwest University, Kano.
Key Policy Decisions
Council also approved a review of the Qualifying Examination Policy, appointed Management and Board Members of the Kano State Mining Company, and endorsed new strategies to eradicate street begging and restore the dignity of vulnerable persons, led by the Ministry of Women Affairs.
Contracts for some abandoned 5-kilometre road projects in Makoda, Doguwa, and Fagge Local Government Areas were revoked due to contractors’ negligence.
Awards and Recognitions
The meeting also featured presentations and courtesy visits, including the introduction of the new Vice Chancellor of Northwest University and multiple national recognitions, such as Best Performing State at the 2025 National Agricultural Show, Best Governor on Youth and Sports Development, and the National Peace Award for Kano State.
The Kano State Government said the wide-ranging approvals underscore its commitment to human capital development, infrastructure renewal, security, and social reforms, in line with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s vision for a more prosperous and inclusive Kano.
