Kano State Delegation Participates in WS4H National Results and Learning Workshop in Abuja
A high-powered delegation from Kano State has arrived in Abuja to participate in the WASH Systems for Health (WS4H) National Results and Learning Workshop, under the leadership of the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru Muhammed ably represented by Engn. Shamwilu Abdulkadir Managing Director Rural Water Supply Agency. (RUWASA) .
Speaking through the permanent secretary water resources directorate represented by Director PRS water board. Alhaji Umar Bala Ibrahim described the event as timely and highly beneficial to Kano State, noting that it provides an important platform for stakeholders to review achievements, share experiences, identify challenges, and develop strategies for strengthening Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) systems across the country.
He reiterated the commitment of the Kano State Government under the leadership of *Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf* towards ensuring equitable access to safely managed and sustainable water supply, improved sanitation services, and better hygiene practices for all residents of the state.
According to him, *Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf* administration recognizes WASH as a critical component of public health, socio-economic development, and environmental sustainability.
The Commissioner further highlighted the significant contributions of the WASH Systems for Health (WS4H) programme in Kano State, particularly in institutionalizing the WASH sector through strengthened coordination mechanisms, improved governance structures, enhanced stakeholder engagement, and more effective service delivery at both the state and local government levels.
He further noted that the programme has played a pivotal role in strengthening institutions and capacity building, promoting evidence-based planning and decision-making within the sector and added that the successes recorded through the WS4H programme especially in Makoda Local Government Area, demonstrate the importance of collaboration among government agencies, development partners, community leaders, and other stakeholders in achieving sustainable WASH outcomes.
The workshop, which is being held today at the Bolton White Event Centre Wuse, Zone 7, Central area FCT, brings together government officials, development partners, WASH practitioners, and sector experts from across the country to review programme results, document lessons learned, and explore opportunities for scaling up best practices that will strengthen WASH systems nationwide.
Members of the Kano State delegation attended the workshop include Director Planning Research and Statistics water resources Directorate *Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar;* Director Youth Mobilization, Ministry of Youth and Sport *Hajiya Zara Isyaku Mukhtar,* the Head of WASH Department, Makoda Local Government Area, *Mansur Isah Fagwalawa;* and the Zonal Information Officer, Dambatta Zone, *Sani Mohammed.*
The participation of Kano State in the workshop underscores the state's continued commitment to strengthening WASH governance, improving service delivery, and ensuring sustainable access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services for all citizens.
