WAIYA DESCRIBES LG INFORMATION OFFICERS' WORKSHOP AS MAJOR SUCCESS
The Kano State Commissioner of Information and Internal affairs Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya has described the just concluded two-day capacity-building workshop for Information Officers from the 44 Local Government Areas, alongside an interactive session with editors and news managers, as a significant milestone in strengthening government communication and public enlightenment.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the workshop, the Commissioner commended the initiative, describing it as a major success in enhancing the performance and professional competence of Information Officers.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Adamu Bala Muhammad, the Commissioner noted that the workshop featured insightful presentations by media and communication experts, followed by robust discussions on key issues affecting the flow of accurate and timely information from the grassroots to the public.
He emphasized that the interactive session between the Information Officers and media executives was crucial in fostering a stronger working relationship that will ensure more effective and coordinated information dissemination across the state.
Comrade Waiya further revealed that plans are already at an advanced stage to ensure the inclusion of dedicated budgetary provisions for Local Government Information Officers in the next fiscal year. This, he said, is part of the government’s strategic efforts to strengthen the information machinery and promote greater transparency and public awareness of government programmes and policies at both the state and local levels.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to supporting initiatives that will further develop the capacity of Information Officers and enhance their contributions toward sustainable development and informed citizen engagement in Kano State.
Comrade Waiya commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the support he has been giving to the ministry especially in sponsoring several workshops organized by the ministry which shows his commitment to the capacity building for improved service delivery.
During the workshop Adamu Abdullahi, Director Public Enlightenment, ministry of Housing and Development Kano presented a paper on Enhancing Media Relations and Synergy in News and Information Management Flow while Professor Nura Ibrahim, Head of Department, Information and Media Studies Bayero University Kano presented a paper on Leveraging Digital Media for Enhanced Grassroots Communication.
A certificate of attendance was presented to the participants by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry Alhaji Adamu Bala Muhammad and Director Public Enlightenment of the ministry Idris Zakariya'u
