WASH:  SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY TRAINING IN MAKODA LGA

‎The BudgIT Foundation, in partnership with Self Help Africa and with support from the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), successfully conducted a two-day Social Accountability Training for stakeholders in Makoda Local Government Area, Kano State.
‎
‎The training, held on 27th August 2025, brought together Community Champions, Community Leaders, Women Groups, Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), and the Local Government Task Group on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). The focus was to enhance their knowledge and skills in social accountability, budget advocacy, and citizen engagement in governance processes.

‎Furthermore, from 28th to 29th August 2025, members of the Network of Water and Sanitation (NEWSAN) were trained on social and financial accountability. The sessions emphasized practical approaches to monitoring budgetary allocations, tracking project implementation, and holding relevant authorities accountable, particularly in WASH-related interventions.
‎
‎The overall goal of the training was to build the capacity of participants to actively engage government institutions in budget processes and demand improved service delivery. It also aimed at strengthening community involvement in tracking government project implementation, with special focus on WASH-related projects in Makoda LGA and Kano State at large.
‎
‎This initiative is expected to empower participants to serve as watchdogs in their communities, ensuring transparency, accountability, and improved service delivery in line with the principles of good governance.
