Kano State Censorship Board Bans All Islamic Singers’ Debates, Summons Usman Maidubun Isa, Shehi Mai Tajul'izzi, and Moderators
In a move to ensure peace, harmony, and compliance among stakeholders in the entertainment and religious sectors, the Executive Secretary of Kano State Censorship Board, Alh. Abba El-Mustapha, has announced an immediate ban on all Islamic singers’ debates in the state without prior approval from the board.
The decision follows a recent unapproval debate between Usman Maidubun Isa and Shehi Mai Tajul'izzi, which the board described as a violation of its operational guidelines.
While inaugurating a fact-finding investigation committee chaired by Malam Isha Abdullahi, Director of Special Duties Kano State Censorship Board, the Executive Secretary gave a 24 hours ultimatum to the involved parties, the two singers and their respective moderators to appear before the committee.
According to the board, organizing such debates without official consent from the Board violates the Kano State Censorship Law, and may attract serious legal actions.
Abba El-Mustapha reiterated the board’s commitment to its mandate of regulating and supervising the activities of all Islamic singers and performers in the state, in line with the law.
He urged the public to remain calm and support the board by providing relevant information that would foster peace, understanding, and cultural development across the state.
