The Kano State Government Committee on Voter Mobilization and Awareness Campaign, chaired by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, has continued to record progress in ensuring mass participation in the ongoing voter registration exercise across the state.
As part of these efforts, the Association for Adult and Non Formal Education Centres ensured that all 701 Adult Literacy Centres under its supervision actively participated in the International Literacy Day celebration organized by Bayero University, Kano (BUK). BUK commended the strong representation and expressed pride in the commitment of the centres to literacy development and civic responsibility, It was in this type of event in the year 2007 after government recognized my efforts in promoting literacy in kano state, through the state Agency for mass education, that I was given the State Literacy Award by the Kano State Government said Comrade Dr. Yahaya Danjuma Yusuf
Speaking on the significance of the engagement, Comrade Dr. Yahaya Danjuma Yusuf, representing the International Peace and Secure Society (IPSS) at the State Government Committee on Voter Mobilization and Awareness Campaign last engagement meeting chaired by the Commissioner of information, explained that the experience inspired the formation of the Quadripartite Alliance for Voter Registration in Kano State, comprising two CSOs and the Association of Adult and Non Formal Education Centres, where he has been a member for over a decade.
“Our Association centres across the state, comprising hundreds of thousands of male and female learners, have sent representatives from every ward. We have identified individuals with Android devices who will serve as ward and polling unit volunteers. They will be at the forefront of voter mobilization, sensitization, and awareness campaigns throughout this exercise,” he stated.
According to him, arrangements for training 11,000 volunteers across the three senatorial districts of Kano have already been structured into zonal teams, following the directive of the Honourable Commissioner during the engagement meeting with CSOs, ensuring full preparedness for a coordinated and grassroots driven mobilization process.
Dr. Yusuf further emphasized the alliance’s commitment, noting that both he, Alhaji Abdulmumini bin Yusuf, and other team members have been working round the clock to build an effective structure capable of delivering massive voter turnout across Kano State.
“By Allah’s will, we are determined to deliver a mass turnout of a minimum of one million registered voters in Kano State, making the Honourable Commissioner and His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Executive Governor of Kano State, proud of this exercise and their leadership in this important effort,” he added.
The Quadripartite Alliance, in its earlier written communication with the Kano State Government Task Force the Committee on Voter Mobilization and Awareness Campaign reaffirmed its resolve to link literacy with civic participation and ensure every eligible citizen is reached during the voter registration exercise.
