The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has today inaugurated a six-week intensive computer training programme for staff of the ministry.
Speaking during the inauguration, Comrade Waiya said the training was part of his promise upon assumption of office to ensure continuous training and retraining of staff, both within and outside the ministry.
He emphasized that capacity building through ICT knowledge is essential in enhancing efficiency, productivity, and overall service delivery. According to him, computer literacy is no longer a luxury but a necessity in today’s digital and globalized world.
“In the era of modern information management systems, there is no way we can operate effectively without computer literacy. It allows us to connect with the world, adopt digital solutions, and discharge our duties more effectively,” the Commissioner stated.
He further noted that the training would equip participants with practical skills in computer usage, stressing that very soon, the ministry will work towards providing a computer for each staff to ease operations.
The Commissioner urged participants to take full advantage of the training by paying close attention to the facilitators and dedicating themselves to acquiring knowledge that will improve their professional competence.
“This is a great opportunity for you. Those who are committed to the training will be the first to benefit from the laptops that the ministry intends to provide. Don’t waste the resources invested in you; ensure that the ministry and the state benefit from your skills and knowledge,” he added.
Giving an overview of the training programme, the Chief Executive Officer of MIK-InfoTech and Programme Coordinator, Engineer Mahmud Isah Kawu, highlighted the importance of the initiative. He explained that the six-week training is carefully designed to introduce participants to modern digital tools, basic and advanced computer operations, as well as applications relevant to public service.
He expressed confidence that at the end of the training, participants will acquire the competence required to handle digital tasks, manage official correspondence electronically, and contribute to the ministry’s transition towards e-governance.
Engineer Kawu further commended the foresight of the Commissioner for prioritizing staff development and assured the facilitators will deliver quality training that meets global standards.
