₦10,000 Bride Price Sparks Controversy as Hisbah Arrests Suspects Over Alleged Forced Marriage in Nasarawa, Kano State
The Kano State Hisbah Board has reportedly arrested five individuals in connection with an alleged forced marriage conducted in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to reports, the marriage was between Aminu (23 years old), the Ango (groom), and Sadiya (22 years old), the Amarya (bride). The event was witnessed by Umar (24 years old), serving as the Wakilin Ango (groom’s representative), Abubakar (23 years old), who acted as the Walihin Amarya (bride’s guardian), and Usaina (21 years old), said to be the witness (Shedar daurin aure).
The marriage, allegedly contracted with a sadaki (bride price) of ₦10,000, has raised public concern over the possibility that it was conducted without the full consent of the bride.
Confirming the arrest, officials of the Kano State Hisbah Board stated that the suspects are currently under investigation to determine the authenticity of the marriage and whether it was carried out in line with Islamic marital principles.
Community members and rights advocates have called on the authorities to ensure justice and safeguard the rights of all individuals involved while maintaining respect for Islamic and cultural values.
