Honourable Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Commends Stakeholders at the One Day Seminar on Drug Abuse and Voter Registration Awareness in Kano
The Honourable Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Kano State, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, was ably represented by Comrade Dr. Yahaya Danjuma Yusuf, FIPSS, FISDMAS, Director General of the International Peace and Secure Society (IPSS) and Convener of the Quadripartite Alliance for Voter Registration in Kano, at a one day seminar organized for newly recruited members of the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The event, which held on Sunday, 12th October 2025, at the LEA Secretariat, Gwagwarwa, brought together over 300 new WADA members, security agencies, civil society organizations, and traditional leaders to deliberate on the theme:
*Operating within NDLEA Laws, Identification of Illigal Drugs and Voter Registration Awareness*
During the event, Comrade Dr. Yahaya Danjuma Yusuf, representing the Honourable Commissioner, joined the organizers and other stakeholders in presenting Certificates of Participation to the trained WADA members. His presence symbolized the Kano State Government’s strong commitment to community based anti drug campaigns and civic education.
In his keynote presentation titled “The Role of Civil Society in Supporting the Ongoing Online Pre Voter Registration and Mobilization Process in Kano,” Comrade Dr. Yahaya Danjuma Yusuf emphasized the importance of civic participation, digital voter registration, and community engagement in strengthening peace and democracy. He reaffirmed the Honourable Commissioner’s commitment to sustaining government support for social reform, voter awareness, and youth empowerment initiatives across the state.
Also in attendance was Comrade Muhammad Tukur Garba, representing the Institute for Human Development and Information Technology (IHDIT) and member of the Quadripartite Alliance, who joined Dr. Yusuf in receiving an Award of Honour presented to the Honourable Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, in recognition of his exceptional leadership, public enlightenment efforts, and contributions to peace building and anti drug campaigns in Kano State.

The seminar achieved its major objectives, which included:
Strengthening community based initiatives to combat drug abuse through WADA.
Promoting modalities and frame work of inter agency collaboration among the Ministry of Information, NDLEA, IPSS, and other security agencies.
Enhancing citizen participation in voter registration and civic education.
Reinforcing peacebuilding, rule of law, and youth engagement.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of an Award of Recognition to the Honourable Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, received on his behalf by Comrade Dr. Yahaya Danjuma Yusuf, alongside Comrade Muhammad Tukur Garba and representatives of security agencies, traditional rulers, and civil society groups.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Yusuf conveyed the Honourable Commissioner’s message of appreciation and assured participants that he will propose Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs to soon organize a capacity building training for all WADA members in collaboration with NDLEA, IPSS and other partners.
He further pledged that issues concerning non conventional drugs which NDLEA has identified as a growing threat will be communicated to the Honourable Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs kano for government consideration and policy action through collaboration with the Hisbah Board and relevant agencies to ensure proper prosecution within the legal framework.
The Honourable Commissioner through his representative expressed deep gratitude to the organizers and reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, security, civic participation, and community development in Kano State.
