Kano State Government Partners with Federal Fire Service on Public Awareness Campaign
The Kano State Government has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Federal Fire Service in promoting public awareness on fire safety and prevention across the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, stated this while receiving the management of the Federal Fire Service, Kano State Command, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Comrade Waiya said the Ministry would provide the necessary platform to support the campaign on fire safety and prevention through radio and television programmes. He urged the Federal Fire Service to identify high-risk areas prone to fire incidents in the state for targeted sensitization through broadcast and social media channels.
Speaking on staff professional development, the Commissioner assured the visiting delegation of the Ministry’s support in ensuring that the staff of Public Relations Unit of the Fire Service are duly registered with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR). He emphasized that the present administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, remains committed to supporting stakeholders who render essential services to the people of Kano State.
Earlier in his remarks, the Deputy Superintendent of Fire and Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Kano State Command, DSF Alhassan Ahmad, said the purpose of the visit was to explore areas of collaboration with the Ministry in carrying out sensitization campaigns on fire safety measures in primary and secondary schools, religious institutions, and traditional communities.
DSF Alhassan further disclosed that the Federal Fire Service would soon hold its Annual Fire Safety Week, which serves as a platform for promoting fire safety awareness. He sought the Ministry’s support, particularly in providing logistics and vehicles to facilitate public enlightenment activities across the 44 local government areas of the state.
He also appealed to the Ministry to assist in facilitating the registration of staff in the Public Relations Unit with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to enhance their professional competence.
