Waiya Leads Strategic Engagement With Chief Imams to Boost Peace and Stability in Kano
The Kano State Government has intensified consultations with key religious leaders as part of its renewed efforts to promote peace, stability, and social harmony across the state.
This followed a special engagement meeting held today between the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, and Chief Imams of Jumu’ah Mosques across Kano State.
Speaking during the meeting at the Ministry’s conference hall, Comrade Waiya said the gathering was convened to seek the support, guidance, and prayers of the revered Islamic clerics in addressing the emerging security challenges facing the state.
He noted that as highly respected leaders of the community, the contribution of the Imams is vital in sustaining peace and promoting public awareness.
The Commissioner appealed to the Imams to consistently offer prayers for peace and stability during Friday sermons across all Jumu’ah mosques in the state. He further urged them to use their sermons to enlighten worshippers on the dangers of spreading rumours, misinformation, and fake news, particularly on social media platforms.
Comrade Waiya reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano State Government to strengthening security through sustained support to security agencies, including the provision of essential tools and logistics to enhance safety in all parts of the state.
He also disclosed that preparations have reached an advanced stage for a large-scale special prayer session for peace, expected to bring together about 4,000 Islamic scholars from across the state and beyond.
According to him, “Security is a collective responsibility that goes beyond politics or party affiliation. Everyone has a role to play in ensuring the safety and stability of our dear state.”
Responding on behalf of the Imams, the Chief Imam of the Jumu’ah Mosque at Waje, Sheikh Abubakar Sa’id, expressed the readiness of the clerics to support the government’s efforts toward ensuring peace and stability in Kano. He emphasized that prayer remains a duty for all men, women, and children whether at home or in the mosque, stressing that peace is essential for social and economic progress.
He noted that Kano, being a central hub of the Northern region, must remain peaceful for its citizens to continue their daily activities without fear.
