The Chairman of the Safe Corridor Initiative in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Salisu Angui Zango, has reiterated the readiness of members of the initiative to collaborate fully with the Kano State Government in its ongoing efforts to curb thuggery and entrench sustainable peace across the state.
Zango made the declaration on Thursday while addressing journalists during a press briefing held at the Kano Online Media Chapel (KOMC). He appealed to youths across Kano to abandon daba-related activities and adopt peaceful, lawful means of livelihood that would contribute to the stability and development of the state.
He explained that the Safe Corridor Initiative was designed as a rehabilitation and reintegration platform for youths who willingly renounced violence, noting that the programme focuses on reforming mindsets and equipping beneficiaries with skills needed for self-reliance.
According to him, members of the initiative remain steadfast in their commitment to complementing government policies aimed at addressing insecurity, stressing that meaningful peace can only be sustained when young people are redirected from crime and empowered economically.
Zango further described the initiative as a strategic partner in the state’s peace-building framework, adding that investment in youth development remains critical to breaking the cycle of violence and social unrest.
Also speaking at the briefing, representatives of youths who surrendered their weapons under the Safe Corridor programme reaffirmed their pledge to maintain peace and support the security objectives of the Kano State Government.
They revealed that while they had successfully undergone screening at the Kano State Police Command under the coordination of the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Wayya, some of the promised support packages were yet to be fully delivered.
Despite this, the group expressed optimism in the government’s sincerity and appealed for the swift implementation of the pledged interventions, including vocational skills acquisition, educational assistance, and sustainable empowerment programmes.
They noted that fulfilling these commitments would not only reinforce their decision to remain law-abiding but also strengthen public confidence in the Safe Corridor Initiative as a viable pathway to lasting peace and security in Kano State.
