Kano — The Kano Patriotic Coalition of Civil Society Organizations Forum (KPCF) has dissociated itself from alleged discriminatory remarks and assault attributed to Dr. Abdulsalami Kani against Mr. Michael Nworisa and two members of the Persons with Special Disabilities (PWDs) community in Kano State.
In a statement jointly signed by its Convener, Hassan Ibrahim Gama, and Co-Conveners Mustapha Muhammed Chiroma and Peter Hassan Tijjani, the coalition, which comprises over 310 civil society organizations, said it followed recent developments with deep concern.
The Forum stressed that it does not support or condone any form of discrimination, ethnic profiling, intimidation, or verbal abuse against any individual or group, regardless of origin, disability status, religion, opinion, or social background.
According to the coalition, civil society is founded on tolerance, respect for diversity, and solidarity, noting that genuine civic engagement must be guided by humility, inclusiveness, and mutual respect.
The KPCF expressed particular concern over allegations that members of the PWD community were subjected to intimidation, harassment, and derogatory remarks, emphasizing that persons with disabilities are equal citizens whose voices and participation in public discourse must be respected and protected.
Describing such actions as morally unacceptable and contrary to Nigeria’s constitutional principles and international human rights standards, the coalition declared its solidarity with Mr. Nworisa and the affected members of the PWD community.
The Forum also called for civility, restraint, and accountability in civic and political engagements across Kano State, while reaffirming its commitment to inclusive, respectful, and peaceful civic participation for all residents, irrespective of background or physical ability.
Furthermore, KPCF reiterated its readiness to continue collaborating with the Kano State Government in various sectors of human development as partners in progress and development.
The coalition urged civil society actors, scholars, activists, and opinion leaders to uphold character, conduct, and respect for human dignity, noting that leadership in civic space should be measured by values rather than rhetoric.
KPCF reaffirmed its commitment to promoting unity, social justice, and democratic values in Kano State and beyond.
