KNSG Dismisses Sagagi’s Claims, Says Yusuf’s Political Realignment Not Driven by Fear

The Kano State Government has debunked claims by former Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Wada Sagagi, alleging that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) out of fear of losing the opportunity to secure a second-term ticket under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
In a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the allegation as “false, baseless, and misleading,” accusing Sagagi of attempting to misinform the public and distort the reasons behind the governor’s political decision.
Waiya clarified that the governor’s realignment was a strategic move taken in the interest of peace, unity, and sustainable development of Kano State, rather than for personal political gain.
According to him, the decision was aimed at strengthening collaboration and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach all residents of the state without discrimination.
“The insinuation that the governor acted out of fear of not securing a second-term ticket is not only misleading but also ignores his strong political standing, wide acceptance, and track record of service delivery,” the statement said.
He added that Governor Yusuf remains committed to his administration’s “Kano First” agenda, which focuses on improving welfare, advancing infrastructure, boosting economic growth, and maintaining social stability.
The commissioner urged the public to disregard Sagagi’s claims, stressing that they do not reflect the true situation.
Waiya further assured that the state government would not be distracted by what he described as baseless allegations, but would remain focused on delivering on its mandate to the people of Kano State.
The statement reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continued development across the state.
