The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total expenditure of ₦55,475,406,487.82 for the execution of strategic projects and programmes aimed at accelerating socio-economic development across the state.
The approvals were granted during the 40th Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano. The outcome of the meeting was presented by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.
Education emerged as the highest beneficiary, with approvals covering the renovation and construction of schools, provision of classrooms, ICT facilities, libraries, solar power systems, students' furniture, rehabilitation of science and technical colleges, establishment of a modern learning centre, procurement of educational materials for special schools, rehabilitation of school buses, and settlement of outstanding feeding costs for boarding schools.
In the health sector, the Council approved the reconstruction and upgrading of primary healthcare facilities, rehabilitation of hospitals, procurement of medical equipment and furniture, expansion of health centres, and strengthening of healthcare infrastructure across several local government areas.
Other major approvals covered compensation for affected property owners on ongoing road projects, improvements in water supply and environmental sanitation, construction and rehabilitation of roads, drainage systems, housing projects, rural development initiatives, and strategic interventions to strengthen public communication, including the procurement of modern broadcasting equipment for the Kano State Broadcasting Corporation and capacity-building for government information officers.
The Council also approved the transmission of several health-related bills to the Kano State House of Assembly, endorsed Kano State's participation in the NG-CARES 2.0 programme, and directed security agencies to intensify efforts against the social menace known as "Daba." It further received reports on the successful 2026 Hajj exercise, presentations on the Global Halal Economy and the Kano State Master Plan, while Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received several national awards in recognition of his administration's achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, education and public service.
