Kano APC Chieftain, Hon. Shehu Isah, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to carefully assess the political strength and grassroots influence of individuals being positioned as key political leaders ahead of future elections.
Hon. Shehu Isah, a prominent APC chieftain from Kano State, said the political standing of individuals should be measured by their actual electoral strength and ability to mobilise voters, rather than political titles alone.
He particularly referenced former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola and his electoral performance in his home state, Osun, which is in Nigeria’s South-West geopolitical zone.
According to Hon. Shehu Isah, “There is no ADC in the South-West because Aregbesola could only secure about 17,000 votes in his home state of Osun as a national leader of the party. Atiku should take note of this when assessing the political strength of those around him.”
He stressed that Osun is one of the six states in the South-West zone, alongside Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti, and argued that political influence should translate into measurable grassroots support.
The Kano APC chieftain maintained that the evolving political landscape requires strategic calculations and leaders with demonstrable grassroots structures capable of delivering electoral support.
He therefore advised political actors, particularly those preparing for future elections, to look beyond political titles and assess the genuine acceptance, mobilisation capacity and electoral value of their political allies.
