The Coalition of Young Imams of Juma’at Mosques, Northern Nigeria (CYIJMNN) has honoured the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, PhD, with the prestigious title of “GWANI.”
The honour was conferred on the Commissioner during a special gathering held in connection with the Khatamatul Qur’an (Qur’an completion) ceremony at the conference hall of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies.
Speaking during the occasion, Commissioner Waiya expressed his happiness and appreciation for the recognition, describing it as a great honour and responsibility. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the activities and initiatives of the Coalition.
The Commissioner urged the young Imams to intensify their efforts in educating and guiding members of the public against politics of abuse, character assassination and thuggery, stressing the need for religious leaders to use their influence to promote peace, unity and responsible citizenship.
He emphasized that Imams and Islamic scholars have enormous influence in society, noting that their voices are respected not only by ordinary citizens but also by political and community leaders.
Comrade Waiya therefore called on the Imams to use their platforms to encourage peaceful political participation, tolerance, moral discipline and constructive engagement, particularly among young people.
The Coalition of Young Imams, in turn, expressed its happiness and appreciation for the Commissioner’s consistent support and encouragement. The Imams acknowledged that Comrade Waiya has always demonstrated readiness to support them and has stood with the Coalition in its various activities and programmes.
They described his support as a source of encouragement to the young Imams, stressing that his commitment to their activities demonstrates his recognition of the important role religious leaders play in promoting peace, unity and positive values within society.
The Coalition further commended the Commissioner for his accessibility, encouragement and willingness to engage with religious leaders, describing his relationship with the young Imams as one based on mutual respect and a shared commitment to the development of society.
Comrade Waiya assured the Coalition of his continued readiness to support its positive initiatives, while emphasizing the importance of collaboration between religious leaders and government in addressing societal challenges and promoting sustainable development in Kano State and Northern Nigeria.
