The Jigawa State Police Command, under the focused and result-oriented leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Dahiru, psc, fdc, recorded two major breakthroughs in recent operations involving a homicide suspect and an armed robbery gang member in different parts of the state.
These achievements are a testament to the relentless efforts of the Command in curbing violent crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, towards a more secure Nigeria.
1. ARREST OF FLEEING HOMICIDE SUSPECT
On Tuesday, 23rd July 2025, at about 1500hrs, operatives attached to Aujara Divisional Police Headquarters recorded a significant breakthrough with the arrest of one Iliyasu Musa ‘m’ age 40yrs of Dangewaye Village, Aujara District, who has been on the Command’s wanted list in connection with a case of culpable homicide.
The suspect had been evading arrest since 10th July 2025, when he allegedly killed his former wife, one Hadiza Sale ‘f’ age 30yrs of Afasha Village, with a stick, under circumstances that shocked the community.
Following intensive intelligence-led surveillance and tactical deployment, the suspect was finally apprehended at Larabar-Tambarin-Gwani village where he had been hiding since he committed the offence.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect set up an ambush near the house's wife in the middle of the night and hit her on the head with a stick as she returned from the market. Information shows that the couple survived with six (6) children.
The suspect is undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Dutse prior to his prosecution in court.
2. ARMED ROBBERY AND ARREST OF SUSPECT.
In a separate incident, on Sunday, 21st July 2025, at about 0430hrs, the Divisional Police Headquarters in Roni LGA received a distress call that unknown persons invaded the residence of one Abubakar Yahaya ‘m’ of Kofar Kudu, Roni Township.
According to the report, the hoodlums broke into the house at about 0230hrs, physically assaulted him, stabbed him with a sharp object, and carted away the sum of one hundred and seventy thousand naira (₦170,000.00k) along with a Techno Hot 40i smartphone.
The scene was promptly visited by a team of detectives led by the Divisional Crime Officer, and the victim was rushed to the Roni Primary Health Care Centre, where he received medical attention and was later discharged.
Intensive investigation led to the arrest of one of the suspects, identified as Alpha Samaila ‘m’ age 20yrs of Sabuwar Unguwa, Roni LGA.
He is currently assisting the police with useful information to arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Dahiru Muhammad, psc, fdc, while commending the gallant efforts of officers attached to Aujara and Roni Divisions, reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property and ensuring that criminal elements have no hiding place within the state.
He further called on residents to remain law-abiding and to support the police with credible and timely information that could aid in crime prevention and detection. He assured that the Command remains vigilant and proactive in its policing strategies to rid the state of all forms of criminality.
