A retired Commissioner of Police, Balarabe Sule, has appealed to His Excellency, President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, to intervene through the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) in order to reduce the cost of performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Balarabe Sule made the appeal while speaking on the challenges faced by intending pilgrims across the country, expressing concern that the current cost which has reportedly risen to about ₦8.2 million is beyond the reach of many devoted Muslims who have the desire to fulfill this important religious obligation.
He noted that Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and should not be made an impossible task for average Nigerians due to economic hardship. Sule therefore urged the Federal Government to engage relevant Saudi authorities and other stakeholders to explore possible ways of reducing the financial burden on intending pilgrims.
The retired Police Commissioner also prayed for peace and stability in Kano State and the entire nation, saying: “May Allah grant us lasting peace in Kano State and across Nigeria.”
