The Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to promoting cultural heritage as a strategic tool for fostering unity and creating employment opportunities for youths across the state and beyond.
This was highlighted during the launch of a motor rally held at the Race Course as part of activities marking the renowned Argungu International Fishing Festival in Kebbi State.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, stated that the Kano State Government views cultural events as vital drivers of economic growth and youth empowerment.
He emphasized that cultural festivals go beyond entertainment, serving as platforms for business development, tourism promotion, and social integration among communities.
According to him, the state government provided full support to the team that organized the motor rally, ensuring its successful staging and strengthening the collaborative relationship between Kano and Kebbi States.
He further assured that the government would continue to initiate and support programs that enable young people to showcase their talents, develop skills, and explore opportunities in sports, culture, and creative industries.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Ibrahim Sulaiman, described the Argungu Fishing Festival as one of the most prominent cultural festivals in Africa and globally.
He noted that the festival attracts participants and tourists from different parts of the world, significantly contributing to economic development and enhancing the region’s reputation.
Sulaiman commended the cooperation between Kano and Kebbi States in ensuring the continued success and expansion of the festival.
The event was attended by the Kano State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hajiya Aisha Lawal Sagi, alongside other dignitaries from across the country.
