The people of Tarauni entrusted you with leadership because they believed you would protect their rights, uphold fairness, and prioritize their welfare above all else.
It is in that spirit that I respectfully but firmly call your attention to the ongoing plans to restructure ’Yar Kasuwa Market in Gyadi-Gyadi South Ward — a market that is privately owned by individuals, including vulnerable members of society such as orphans who inherited these properties from their late parents and depend entirely on them for survival.
Let it be clearly stated: development is welcome. Modernization is appreciated. Progress is necessary. However, development must never come at the cost of injustice, intimidation, or exclusion.
The situation surrounding this project raises serious concerns that demand your immediate and personal intervention.
1. Growing Division and Loss of Trust
There is visible division among market stakeholders, creating two opposing camps — supporters and opponents of the project. This division is fueled not by resistance to development, but by a lack of transparency and clarity regarding the future ownership and control of the shops after renovation. When information is incomplete, suspicion grows. When clarity is absent, trust erodes.
2. Absence of Clear and Binding Documentation
Shop owners reportedly have not received formal, detailed, and legally binding documentation outlining the exact terms of the agreement. There is also uncertainty about the identity, credibility, and contractual terms of the company handling the project. A project of this magnitude should never proceed without full disclosure and documented agreement with all affected stakeholders.
3. Allegations of Threats and Coercion
It has been alleged that representatives involved in negotiations have warned shop owners that refusal to consent may result in the revocation of their shops by the Local Government. If such statements have been made, they undermine democratic principles and create fear among law-abiding citizens who are simply seeking clarity and fairness.
Development should be built on consultation — not coercion.
4. Questionable Representation
Some individuals are said to be representing shop owners without the knowledge or consent of all stakeholders. Decisions that affect people’s inherited property and means of livelihood must involve full participation, transparency, and collective agreement.
5. Livelihood of Over 500 Youths at Stake
This market sustains over 500 youths who have created opportunities for themselves without relying on government employment. Any restructuring plan must provide clear guarantees that these young people will not lose their only source of income. Economic displacement without protection measures would have serious social consequences.
Your Excellency, history remembers leaders not for the projects they start, but for the justice they uphold. True leadership is measured by fairness, transparency, and the protection of the vulnerable.
The people of Tarauni do not oppose development. They oppose uncertainty. They oppose intimidation. They oppose exclusion from decisions that affect their survival.
I therefore strongly urge you to:
Suspend any further action until all stakeholders are fully consulted.
Provide official written documentation detailing the full terms of the project.
Ensure open dialogue between the Local Government, market leadership, and all shop owners.
Guarantee that no citizen will lose their rightful property without due process and lawful agreement.
Justice strengthens leadership. Transparency builds loyalty. Consultation preserves peace.
