The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total sum of ₦79,490,932,338.84 for the execution of wide-ranging development projects aimed at strengthening governance, infrastructure, and public welfare across the state.
The approvals were reached during the Council’s 39th meeting held on April 28, 2026, at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano, following extensive deliberations on critical sectors of the economy.
A significant portion of the approvals is dedicated to the education sector, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving access to quality learning. Key interventions include the payment of external examination fees for Kano indigenes, settlement of outstanding liabilities, procurement of school furniture across 30 local government areas, and the construction and renovation of schools in various parts of the state.
In the health sector, the Council approved funds for the renovation of Wudil General Hospital, procurement of medical equipment, routine immunization, and free maternal and child healthcare services across hundreds of primary healthcare centres. Measures to tackle polio outbreaks and upgrade health facilities were also included.
Major infrastructure projects featured prominently, with approvals covering road reconstruction in Gwale Local Government Area, the construction of a major road linking Panshekara Underpass to Madobi Bridge, and the renovation of key government facilities. Additional works include improvements to NYSC camp facilities and religious infrastructure.
The agriculture sector received a boost with the procurement of over 41,000 bags of fertilizer, rehabilitation of irrigation schemes, and renovation of key agricultural offices, aimed at enhancing food production and supporting farmers.
In the area of environment and climate change, the Council approved projects for the beautification of parks, landscaping of roads, construction of solar-powered boreholes, and drainage improvements to mitigate flooding.
The water resources sector recorded some of the largest allocations, including the rehabilitation of Challawa Water Intake Station and Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant, alongside settlements for diesel supply and electricity bills to ensure stable water supply.
Urban development initiatives also received major attention, with approvals for land compensation for Gaya Polytechnic, urban renewal projects, street naming and mapping, and house numbering schemes to improve city planning and organization.
Other approvals include procurement of operational tools for information officers, implementation of a rehabilitation programme for repentant youth under the Safe Corridor initiative, construction of a new Ministry of Transportation office, and special intervention projects across 15 local government areas.
The Council also approved funds for salary adjustments for staff of Aliko Dangote University, consultancy services for audit processes, and empowerment programmes, including support for butchers. Additionally, provisions were made for Hajj operations logistics.
The Council commended the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, noting the growing recognition of his administration’s achievements. It also highlighted a symbolic gesture by a classroom teacher who donated ₦30,000 to support the government’s education drive.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the Council assured residents that all approved projects would be executed in line with due process to enhance socio-economic development across Kano State.
