Kano Government Considers Diploma Programme for Social Media Advocates
The Kano State Government will explore the possibility of collaborating with the Faculty of Communication, Bayero University, Kano, to offer a diploma programme for Social Media Advocates promoting Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s projects.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, during the closing ceremony of a two-day workshop organized for the advocates. The workshop was hosted by the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs in collaboration with Nexa Digital Services.
Comrade Waiya stated that the proposed diploma course would enhance the participants’ capacity to effectively use social media platforms for disseminating information on government policies and programmes.
The Commissioner added that the state government considers the advocates as its ambassadors and therefore urged them to conduct themselves with humility, responsibility, and respect in their engagements with the public, while preserving the dignity of both the government and themselves.
He further encouraged the advocates to explore the vast business opportunities available on social media to empower themselves and attain financial independence.
In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of Twitter Advocates for Abba Kabir Yusuf Project Promotion commended the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs for organizing the workshop, which enabled them to gain additional skills and knowledge for improved dissemination of government activities.
Among the paper presenters at the workshop were:
Malam Auwal Sa'id Mu'azu, an editor and media/communication consultant, who presented a paper titled “Media Convergence and Artificial Intelligence – A Strength or a Threat to Media Practice”
Aisha Bala Rabi'u, from the Department of Mass Communication, Kano State Polytechnic, who presented a paper on “Understanding and Combating Misinformation, Fake News, and Fact-Checking Techniques”
Aisar Salihu Fagge, also from the Department of Mass Communication, Kano State Polytechnic, who presented a paper on “Content Creation and Impactful Social Media Messaging
Umar Sulaiman Usman, who demonstrated practical techniques in content creation.
At the end of the workshop, participants presented an award to the Commissioner in appreciation of his commitment to capacity-building. Certificates of attendance were also presented by the Commissioner.
