In a proactive move aimed at improving sanitation and hygiene across communities in Kano State, the Kano WASH Media Network has unveiled its plan to engage the Kano Forum of Councilors in a strategic dialogue on the construction of public toilets in their respective wards.
The initiative comes in the wake of a reported allocation of over Ten Million Naira to each councilor, designated for developmental projects within their constituencies. The WASH Media Network believes that this funding provides a timely opportunity to address the pressing challenge of open defecation and poor sanitation facilities across many localities.
Speaking on the importance of the engagement, the Chairman of Kano WASH Media Network, Mallam Abdullahi Jalaluddeen, emphasized that the provision of public toilets is not only a matter of public health, but also a fundamental step toward environmental safety and community dignity. He further highlighted that this advocacy aligns with one of the key commitments made by the Network’s executive members during their inauguration, under the supervision of Self Help Africa Organization.
“This is not just a campaign—it is a commitment to the people of Kano. It is our responsibility as a network to hold stakeholders accountable and ensure that public resources are used to meet the basic needs of the citizens,” Jalaluddeen stated.
The upcoming meeting with the Forum of Councilors is expected to center on sensitization, policy advocacy, and community mobilization around sustainable sanitation infrastructure.
The Kano WASH Media Network calls on all relevant stakeholders, civil society groups, and community leaders to support this noble initiative for a cleaner, healthier Kano.
