The maiden edition of the Kano Civil Society Organizations Conference has officially kicked off in Kano State.
The event, which is organized by patriotic civil society organizations with the full support of the Kano State Government through the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, take place at Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, KHAIRUN, along BUK Road, Sharada Kano.
In His welcome address the Commissioner of Information and internal Affairs Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya said Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) represent the heartbeat of our communities.
They are the voices of the people, the bridges between government and citizens, and the defenders of rights, justice, and accountability. At the grassroots, CSOs serve as catalysts for development, platforms for advocacy, and partners for social progress.
He added that the administration of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, is committed to deepening democratic governance, promoting transparency, and creating space for citizens to engage meaningfully in decision-making. We recognize CSOs as strategic partners in this mission, and we are determined to strengthen this collaboration through open dialogue, supportive policies, and inclusive governance processes.
During His declaration opening the Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf ably represented by His Deputy Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo He said His administration is deeply committed to building an open, inclusive, and participatory democracy.
“We understand that governance cannot succeed without the active involvement of the people. That is why we continue to:
Promote transparency and accountability in government processes.
Create avenues for citizens and CSOs to participate in decision-making.
Strengthen partnerships with organizations working to uplift our people at the grassroots.
We are determined to sustain policies and programs that address poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and other challenges confronting our people.”
Speaking at the opening ceremony, stakeholders from across various sectors commended the initiative, describing it as a platform to strengthen collaboration between government and civil society groups in promoting good governance, accountability, and sustainable development.
The conference brings together representatives of non-governmental organizations, community-based groups, government officials, and development partners to deliberate on strategies for enhancing civic engagement and ensuring the voices of citizens are better reflected in policymaking.
Organizers say the maiden edition marks a new chapter in fostering mutual trust and partnership between the government and the people, with the ultimate goal of advancing peace, unity, and prosperity in Kano State.
